Thanks for all the replies.
Have been in touch with Gap today - very helpful.
Looks like I have some stretched out connectors. Tried their repair process with the OBD connector still and got it to work a little bit but still no bueno.
Can't seem to find any info about getting the connector out to inspect. Is it just the lower panel with two philips screws? Does that just pull out?
Also looked in the manual but there are so many sections I may not be looking in the right place.

Plugging it in with the engine off first definitely helped to have it not run through a lot of codes - thanks for that DavC and schwaggy

Yes the panel is the screws, it should come out easy but remember to disconnect the footwell light plug. Can't say how good the access to the OBD port is but it should be right there.

This was the last time I pulled that panel, for the sunroof drain how-to pics, wasn't hard.
