Gas tank damage
Just wondering if anybody here is familiar with the LR3 gas tank. I came down pretty hard on the rear of the gas tank this past weekend at the Vermont Overland Rally and bashed it in a bit. Upon closer examination though, it looks as though there may be a skid plate over the gas tank? Was the LR3 designed with a stock (thin) skid plate covering the gas tank? Or did I actually bash in the back of the tank? Has anybody ever removed the tank (TomR, I'm looking at you here...)?
There is a metal covering over your gas tank. I dented mine in a little so I removed the cover and banged the dent out. Easy job.

.
I was wondering about damage to my tank too, as I also attended Vermont Overland Rally and we did some heavy trails over that weekend .
I took some mild hits to it , but after closer inspection , I have no major damage underneath . Installing back RS sliders was the best idea in my recent history , as they literally save my LR3 from major carnage . I tried to take lines, that would involved going over obstacles , with rock sliders, most of the time, but going over deep, muddy water holes, I could hear a thin gas tank scraping over hidden rocks as well as Front and rear lower control arms, but those are a pretty solid from a factory and survived OK with just a minor gouges .
I think , that tank skid plate comes down along with plastic fuel tank, so you would have to secure it somehow while lowering it down , best to have less then 1/4 on the fuel left in the tank , while doing it.Cheers.
