Default HDC Fault, ABS, Brake, DSC Lights On. Help.

Hey All,

I searched the forum several times and found some information, but I thought I would post my specific problem to see if I might find some solutions.

I have a 2006 LR3 with 75k miles. Last week the message center displayed "HDC Fault" and the suspension lowered, followed by the illumination of these lights: ABS, Brake, DSC, and suspension (or ride height -- forget the actual name of that one). The traction selection modes doesn't work either. It runs and shifts fine, get up to speed no problem. The brake lights work. Have not replaced any bulbs. I suspect it's electrical or voltage and that not all those systems failed at once.

I checked the fuses -- all good. The battery was replaced a month ago, so all good there. Last week I blew a windshield washer pump fuse and fog light fuse. Replaced both -- working fine since. Don't know if those are somehow related.

Now, took it to my dealer -- a reputable small one. They can't seem to find the "problem" so I'm turning to the expert and enthusiasts here.

Thoughts? suggestions? Anybody have this very experience?

Thanks, pete

It's a cheap and easy fix to find out...about $20 and ten minutes work

The symptoms are consistent with a burnt-out Brake Pedal Switch. Doesn't mean that's the issue, but it'd be my first guess and for $20 you might as well try it. You'll need a new one anyway at some point...

Similar symptoms with the vehicle lowering when I placed the vehicle into Drive. Starting up and going in Reverse was fine. Keeping the foot brake on was fine, but shift into Drive and the Suspension Fault came on along with the vehicle lowering.

Brake light Switch was replaced. A small bit of soot was in the switch, but contacts were bright.

Started it and all the suspension related lights came ON....more than before and including HDC. Dashboard looked like a Christmas tree. Did a Hard Reset, and no change.

What next to try?

Clean the contacts under the Shift lever, you can remove the entire center console then clean all the contacts and wires under there....should fix your problem if the Brake Pedal replacement does not.

Also....if you cant find a link as to how to remove it....I can help with that....first thing is to remove the shift handle...this comes off by pulling REALLY hard straight up on it.....it may take some force.....then its a matter of removing all the screws and gently popping the console up and out starting at the front and working your way around. You may break a clip or two...be careful....once you have it off you will see a rats nest of wires....MAKE sure you know where you unplug them "Label them" so you know where they go when you are done. This will probably fix an entire array of suspension and brake faults due to the amount of moisture that leaks down onto these connectors......and if you have the little mini fridge in the console that has not worked in awhile....it will probably fix that too.

I'm assuming when people say brake pedal switch they mean brake light switch. Easy and cheap fix. Check the sunroof drain sticky, there is a photo I had of the panel you will need to remove to access the area.

AB has a video on the part listing page that is fairly good.

If you haven't checked your tubes on the other hand... do that now. Water can only cause more problems if left alone.
