Default How does software update work?

I guess I should start with some history; I had a starting problem where the engine stumbles and/or stalls only on morning starts. Otherwise she runs great. (I tried cleaning the MAF and intake with CRC sprays, but no luck).
The dealer updated the engine software on my ‘08 LR3 V8 and the car still started poorly for 1 week. But then on week 2 it seems to have gone away.
is it possible that the software needed 1week of morning starts to “learn” what is needed to start correctly?
if so how the heck does that work?????
thanks!!

Funny, I have the same problem now. Three MAF sensors, a PCV swap no change. Moving onto EGR next.

If the vehicle throws codes, you need em. The system will learn over time and *maybe* that happened but that would mean something changed. Like if there is a MAF sensor fault, adaptations need to be reset after replacement of the sensor or it will continue to run the way it was but maybe eventually adjust and clear the code. Software update is never a solution for something like that, so its really odd a dealer would do it. I am sure they took codes, you should post em. Its possible the fault could return if it is something that is failing and maybe is working again, for now.
