Default How to replace a worn button cover?

Just bought a 2006 Land Rover LR3 -- Love it! The only thing that I can find that is in less than perfect condition is one of the HomeLink buttons located on the rearview mirror....... it is the one closest to the driver, it can be programmed to control an entry gate, garage door, etc. -- anyway, it was obviously used ALOT, the button is all scratched up, the black in nearly all worn off, it just looks bad; does anyone know if there is a way to replace or repair the worn button vs. going to the expense of totally replacing the entire rearview mirror unit? Much thanks!

Not sure if you could replace it, but try putting on Meguire's Natural Shine to protect it, and restore the look. Great to use on the dash too, not to shiny.

Welcome BTW....what trim/color combo?

Are you still under warranty? I have a 2005 LR3 and I had a similar issue with the white printing on the button. I was able to get the entire mirror replaced under warranty. The newer style mirror was put in, which uses smaller rubber buttons on the bottom of the mirror.

Probably sounds stupid BUT......... how do I access under warrenty repairs? I purchases my vehicle from a non-Range Rover Dealership....... the LR is still under full warranty for about 3 more months; please advise on my options. Also, I have noticed a slipping noise/feel in the transmission when I am rolling to a stop or when I am accelerating from a rolling stop, kind of a bump/bump type feel...... is this just how a Land Rover handles this type of shifting or do you think that is a problem?

As you are aware, the US warranty is 4 years or 50,000 miles, whichever comes first. The warranty applies to the vehicle regardless of where it was purchased. Just make an appointment with any Land Rover dealer, and they will let you know what issues will be covered under warranty. I am pretty sure the mirror will be covered as it is a common issue. The transmission problem sound like the one that has been reported by numerous people on this forum and others. The typical symptom is a huge lurch forward when accelerating from a rolling stop. It can be cured with a software update.
