Default Key Stuck in Ignition

Today I was turning off my 06 LR3 and noticed that the key would go to the off position but would not come out of the ignition. After some wiggling and turning it back to the 1 and 2 position the key would come loose. While the key was in the off position I could move the steering wheel back and forth. It happend twice more, and if I quickly turn the key to the off position it comes out. I noticed that if i fiddle with the key too much the red parking brake light comes on. The key is the original one and I do not have a spare to test with. As a note the rear brakes were replaced a few months ago, and I recently re-spliced and fixed the corroded wire (causing intermittent three amigos) in the passenger foot well. (Edit: added more info)

Mine will do that if the steering is not "dead ahead"

Jiggle the gear shift when its in park, that works every time for me. Sometimes it doesn't engage properly.
