Yeah.. I called about the key today. Its $241, plus $125 to program it. I know I'll be "bent over" for a while on these things and pouring out the hard earned cash, but in the grand scheme of things, I feel like I got a great deal. It is a solid vehicle, me and my wife love it.

Ya know.. this new to me vehicle search started out with me trying to find a 2007 or 2008 Jeep Grand Cherokee diesel. There was one 2008 that was in my state, Virginia. When I called about it, was just sold and being shipped out to California.
I drove a gas version, 2012 and discovered I had the same problem as i did with my Jeep Liberty.. not enough room, I bump my head getting into it.

Then I almost bought a Hummer H3 until I found that it has a low tow capacity.. then test drove a Mercedes ML350 Bluetec diesel.. researched that vehicle and found they have many problems that are very expensive to fix such as leaky oil cooler lines.

Took a look at my first LR3.. and was blown away by the interior. The more I read up on these vehicles the more i wanted one.

The fluids.. i assume you are referring to transmission & diff fluids? The oil I found should be 5-30.

Just made a short video of my recently purchased 06 LR3 today. We got a bit of snow overnight and wanted to observe how the 4wd system handled the snow and just how it worked in general.

First part was just in normal drive mode. Then changed to snow mode and final was in hdc, low and rock crawl mode. My final verdict on this, is that it does so well in just normal drive mode, I preferred that over the snow mode.

So, Im loving the new to me 2006 LR3! My drive home from the dealer, 160 miles, 90 percent hwy I managed 20.2 mpg. I filled up today.. and has just been basic running around, some hwy and was 16.5mpg.
I really like the electronic manual shift mode and I believe can get better mpg when using this option, cause it allows me to make the shifts sooner. I try and keep the rpm's down below 2k.

On the other note.. man the sport mode is fun! It becomes more like a muscle car in this mode and easily, without trying chirped the tires on take off.

Link to my video in the snow.

I was referring to all fluids. A bit of money in changing all the fluids is a good investment to keeping the truck happy for a while, especially on a used purchase at that mileage, at least my $0.02.

Engine oil
Diffs gear oil
T-case
Tranny if it hasn't had filter/pan changed yet
coolant system flush

@DavC - Thank you for the advice. Just fyi, I have taken your 2 cents worth and spent $50 on 2 qts of LR Transfer case fluid. Going to use Royal Purple on the diffs. The oil cap on the engine says Castrol 5w-30. I'll be changing all those fluids on the same day here soon.
So far, ive spent right at a $1000 on stuff after the purchase. Went to the dealer and ordered an extra key fob, not cheap and the transfer case fluid. Today, I ordered 4 new tires. Bought the Hankook Dynapro AT-M. 4 of those with shipping came to $697.
Only major thing after this will be replacing the roof glass. Also replaced the front wiper blades and new floor mats.

The Tranny, from what I have read shouldnt be changed until it gets to 150k miles. Currently he only has 110k miles, so, think i'll wait on that one.
Thanks for your input.

You can use Royal Purple Synchromax on the T case, it's for manual trans. The dealer was out of T case fluid and steered me in the Synchromax direction.

You are most welcome

You have read what the LR spec recommends. However the tranny is a ZF, and they have recommended strongly that this be a 75k service item. On most things LR is spot on but in some cases (diffs and tranny especially), they get it wrong because they don't make those items in-house.

You should be ok but I would push for it to be done sooner rather than later. Try fitting a pan that has a removable filter so it will be easier the next time you do it (I forget the brand/where to get those). Current change is pretty difficult as the whole pan needs to come out.
