All is done...replaced both front LCA bushings with orange PolyBush from Lucky8 and got the alignment done this morning. The ride is great with no vibration >50mph and no knocking when applying the brakes or coming into the driveway.

In hindsight I would have probably just purchased the new control arms with the bushings and balljoint already pressed in. But it was a good experience and with the money I saved, I now have a HBF 12 ton press. :-D

*I ended up getting bushings pressed out at a machine shop for $28.

Getting ready to do this on our '06 LR3....seems folks I've talked to and others that posted here suggest replacing the entire arm which I'm leaning towards.

Where is the best/recommended place to source the new arm assembly?

Yes, I would suggest BPUtah:

Front Pass Side LCA: Land Rover LR3 Genuine OEM Factory Front Lower Control Arm Assembly LR028249

Also, don't forget the lower control arm hardware kit (for each side):

Control Arm Hardware Kit - Does One Side-Lower Arm - Land Rover ball joints\rod ends from Atlantic British

Also, I've heard the Range Rover Sports have better bushings in them:

Control Arm Front Lower Left (LR029306)
Control Arm Front Lower Left (Genuine Part # LR029306) - Land Rover ball joints\rod ends from Atlantic British
$329.95

Control Arm Front Lower Right (LR029304)
Control Arm Front Lower Right (Genuine Part # LR029304) - Land Rover ball joints\rod ends from Atlantic British
$309.95

---

Do some research on the RRS ones... they seem to be preferred it seems.

Hi guys,

I just ordered new lower control arms for my LR3. I was looking at the Cubbyservice manual and it showed some tools needed for the job. What I wanted toknow is if these tools are needed for the job or can I get by using somethingelse. I have a different ball joint separator that I feel should work. The toolI am unsure of is the Halfshaft remover/replacer. Is this a tool I can getaround with not having or where can I find one?

Ball joint separator 205-754(LRT-54-027)

Halfshaft remover/replacer204-506/1 (LRT-60-030/1)

I've not some this job yet (though I've got the arms too) but I know for other cars there are axle separators that you can get from the auto parts stores that bolt the the lugs and push the cv joint out. Unless they are put together with sealant or unless you live someplace where things get rusty, you might not need it. When I do mine I'm just going to try a brass punch and push them out. If that doesn't work I'll look for a tool.

I just used an air chisel to push the axle out, had no problem. I imagine you'd also be able to do it with a BFH and a strategically placed pointed chisel or large punch.

If you're going to go through all that trouble, my recommendation is to do the front wheel bearings while you're in there. It's like 4 more bolts to get them off.
