LR3 Died while driving, cranks but won't start

Loanrangie, thanks for that. Sorry not to acknowledge sooner - I've been away. To help narrow it down, will a bad cam position sensor cause the car to die will driving? I'm still stuck on connecting this to the fact that I changed the air filter, only to have the car then die a block from my house when I left to do an errand an hour later!
