LR3 front diff/axle removal
I'm working on replacing the front diff on a 2006 LR3 SE. I can't for the life of me get the axle out. There's about a 2" wide collar behind the housing that is a greater diameter than the housing it has to go through. I've tried pry bars and a slide hammer but this collar and the back side just isn't moving, thus keeping the axle from coming out. I've tried google and youtube but don't have an answer. I can get pics if necessary.
Thanks!
Thanks!
Ha! Thanks! What I discovereed is that unlike any other truck I've done, and unlike ALMOST every youtube video I looked at, the axle doesn't pull out from the hub. Instead you have to push it back through the hub and then you can yank it from the diff. Makes perfect sense once you've seen it but it stumped the rather inexpeienced me. Of course I'm not done with it yet so there may be more surprises ahead.
Really? Thats literally how every CV is removed that I have worked on. At the hub/knuckle you need to free it - usually leaving the nut installed but backed off, then put a socket on and whack it a few times. Pops off fairly easily. Once free, pull from diff.
