I called a locksmith near me to cut it down only to save money but that key worked only for few days and it ended up getting a key from the dealership.

When I purchased my first LR3, one of the first things I began to investigate was the "spare key" initiative. Having owned several Disco II's, I was certainly preparing myself for how to get a key, without paying dealership prices. The best solution was the IID Tool from GAP Diagnostics. The blank keys only cost $15-$23 each, and an honest locksmith won't charge more than $15 to cut the key. I don't trust any third party agencies to program my keyfobs. The IID Tool paid for itself with the first set of keys I programmed (8 minutes, could have been 3 minutes if I wasn't so maticulous). The dealership wanted almost $575 for the programming of two (2) extra keyfobs...

hi, a bit late to the party. Where did you get your blank key from for this reasonable price? Even if it’s gone up a bit in the last couple years still way worth it. Did the blank key come with key fob or is it just the metal piece? Thanks! Brian

I suggest gettin the key/fob from Lucky 8.

I did not know at the time that Lucky8 offered them and I purchased 2 on ebay for $20 each. Both would not keep a charge after a few month.

I have had the Lucky8 one now for much longer and it's still good. And it was only slightly more at $28....well worth the $8.

Get the Gap tool to program it. All the features the GAP tool has will pay for itself past the fob programing.

Oh thank you! We know the folks at Lucky 8. Didn’t know they offered key fobs. And thanks for the tip on the GAP tool, we already have it and yes it’s an invaluable piece of kit!

No dealership will only program original JLR key not the aftermarket ones.
