I got a low mileage 06 HSE two years ago for 10.9k. Needed nothing but the plastic cover on the drivers door latch. I went over it after buying it & did a full brake job with cross drilled/slotted rotors & ceramic brake pads (doing fantastic nearly 40k later), a new alternator (was charging lower than I’m happy with), and a new battery. Only real issue I’ve had was a bad brake switch. Great SUV & it’s only issue this year was the A pillar trim flying off at 85MPH LOL.

Pic’s of the vehicle can tell you so much if you know what to look for. For instance the shady LR sellers almost never show a side view of the drivers seat. It’s always from the middle outward (meaning side leather is trashed) or when it comes to the idiot lights on = shot of cluster is always with the key in Position II vs engine running showing actual faults.

I’ve bought 98% of my LR’s via CL, Facebook Marketplace or thru friends. I’m not a carmax/used car lot kinda guy. If the deal looks to good to be true, it usually is lol.

Default Pro Tip:

Open the hood and look for the updated front diff breather valve/cap. That will tell you how in-tune the PO was!

Abran, have you done/seen a lot of rear air strut replacements? I've done my fronts...how can I tell if my rears need to be replaced?

I've seen 2 that have started leaking, but I've seen many with shocks that have lost there ability to dampen. You should try a new set, Arnott makes them now with a lifetime warranty. Freshens up the ride.

Yeah I think my front shocks aren't doing their jobs nearly as good as they used to, might look into doing all four corners soon.

Unless it says Defender on it, don’t expect much. Poor reliablilty, poor gas mileage, expensive to maintain. I will agree that the price of Jeep Wranglers these days is absurd.

I don't really want to try a new set to the tune of $2000 installed. My fronts are new and I agree that it freshens up the ride, but those are also the pair closest to my seat and that are taking most of the load. I feel like the rears are larger and don't work as hard; hence last longer. Am I wrong? I've not heard of many people on this board (and other boards) changing them nearly as much as the fronts, and my ride feels great.

Also, the fronts let you know when they need replacing, by allowing contact between the shock assembly and the upper control arm at fool droop.

I know you go to the dealer, but $2k is more like all 4 air struts at full retail at an Indy shop.

can’t really say if you need them. I always ask if this was a typical suspension coil plus shock, and at your mileage, factoring in type of usage, would you consider it time to change out the shocks?

Your spot on Abran. I don't think anyone can expect the damping units to last more than 100k miles. I have 145K on my LR3 and I can definitely feel they need replacing. Shocks are one of the wear items that you do not get an immediate signal that they are worn out, but after you replace them you can certainly feel the difference. I've been looking at the Bilstein yellow label replacements. Has anyone tried these?

Yes to two out of three. Cooling system is still original. Compressor was just done about 2-1/2 mo ago, due to some 'un-settling' issues when it sat for too long. All good now.
It has had all recommended services (even more than I think it should have had!)

saw your ad. If someone offered 15.8, take it. That’s a bird nest on the ground!
