Default LR3 rear hatch - does yours fully release?

When pressing the lock/unlock buttons to get the rear hatch to release, I find it does not work correctly. It releases but there is not enough spring to clear the latch. So with it open, its still caught. And then I have to close it to re-open it and pressing the handle switch will not trigger it again. My support struts are new and there is no loose hardware (I know the upper gas strut point can come undone). So the first thing I did was to short the springs on the "pushers" for more force. That did not help. Next step was to shim the strike pads the pushers press against. That helped, but I shim them to the point were I can not add any more spacers. If I do, the nuts wont thread. So at this point, I am looking to buy new "pusher" hardware - the spring pushers and the strike pads.

So I am wondering, does anyone else have this issue? Is it a wear issue? I hate to replace the hardware for nothing. But I find that is must normally work better than this.

I guess it could be the cable, but I have no problem opening it using the rear handle if I pull as I press - as one normal would. Its just when trying to release, via the console, that I have issue as no one is pulling the latch up as its releasing. Seems more of an issue with "spring action" on the top half.

But you are saying you had this exact issue and it was the cable? My cable is not broke and I just reinforced it a couple weeks ago, before it could break.

Mine is the same way. I just wrote it off and never tried to trouble shoot.

in fact, I’ll start trying on all the LR3s we have. If memory serves it doesn’t do what we would expect it to do on any of our vehicles.

Dakota,
You said 'via the console'. I was not aware the rear door could be activated via the console.
How is that done?

I believe he is talking via the remote keyless entry. The LR logo can be programmed to do 3 functions, unlocking the hatch is one of them.

My remote opens the doors with two clicks. first is front second is all rear doors. Have never programmed it for anything special. There is so much that I have not delved into with this vehicle. The more I learn, the more complicated it feels.

He is referring to the purported ability to open the rear hatch from up front by pressing both the lock and unlock buttons at the same time. Mine has never worked....it always just popped it loose but not all the way, as the OP described.

I would not want the tailgate door to pop open with the unlock button as I use it mostly for the rear doors, but they do all unlock with that button. I have a swing away tire carrier and it would be awkward to have it pop open. I think it unlocking is just fine.

Bingo. Per the manual and destruction, the top rear natch should release. But its still caught. If one were to program the remote, the issue would be the same however.

Now you ask why? Well when I pick up folks who have a hand full of photo gear, it just makes it quicker and easier if they can nudge the hatch up. Especially when double-parked in, say, downtown Chicago. Is this a huge deal, nah. But I am just wondering if it ever worked "correctly" when new? And wondering how many others seem to have the hatch snag as I do. Seems that no one has a top hatch that actually releases enough to just nudge the rest of the way. And to mention, again, that when this happens you can't even actually lift it at all or activate the release again until you close it all the way - so that alone tells me it should not be this way or why even have the function?
