To second DT's shift cable woes. my LR3 did that flaring in neutral around corners and wouldn't move forward but would move in reverse. The shift cable was binding just enough to not properly engage any forward gear, to drive it home I had to hold it as far back as I could. When OP filed it up, ran through the gears and said it wasn't taking in any more it might be the cable isn't shifting much at all. Definitely an item to check.
