I have the jag v8 but wouldn't let a ford v6 sway me away from buying a particular lr3.
That being said I don't think the lack of power is worth the 1mpg increase and it still requires premium(or recommends it).
The Jag 4.4 is very common and easy to find parts for(and not that expensive either).
Longevity is not something I know much about but i'd guess the ford engine would last longer being low stress and all.

Some of these V6 LR3's came without air suspension and navi. I consider this a plus. Coil Springs never leak only rust. Nav sucks and is out of date already. V6 has plug wires while the V8 has coil on plug.
I see so few V6's that I can't see they are more reliable. With less options, I would say the V6 is more reliable.

V6 vrs V8
Thanks for the replies. There are two V6 models that are on my list. One does not have 3rd row.
I know in the D2, you can jimmy a third row into the one without. Could you ad a third row in a 5 seater LR3? Maybe from wrecker etc?
I'm sure i'll end up getting one equipped with 3rd row but just in case I find a cherry 5 seater, asking the question.

...but for all the LR3's "reliability issues" very few have to do with the engine. Sure, maybe a coiler is more simple than an EAS version but it's also less capable off-road. You just have to look at the trade-offs and see if it's right for you. Ultimately, driving one will tell the tale.

I wouldn't own a coil sprung lr3 and can't for the life of me why everyone always mentions coils.
1. The soft ride.
2. The capability to raise/lower at will
3. Self leveling
I'm not saying a coil sprung Lr3 is useless I'm just saying it doesn't IMO fit with the type of vehicle. Land Rover apparently agrees.

EAS is great, I drive one every single day many miles, very reliable.
NAV is just fine thanks, does not "suck". Outdated - yes, somewhat clunky - yes, cubby more useful - yes.
To the question about can you add the third row seats, the answer is yes but you'll need to weld/rivet in new hardware, steel frames for seats/rails, the two seats themselves, and the safety equipment like belts into the pillars. Plus they won't have the airbags for the third row as far as I am aware...
It won't be enough just to buy the two jump seats and throw them in... not plug and play last I heard.
You would be surprised how much FoMoCo parts are on the jag engines too. They're pretty robust. The 4.0 always seems really cool to have but less power and possibly harder to figure out since so few have them. That said if its actually a ford engine thats standardized thats a different story. I still have never seen one in the flesh.

As houm mentioned above, have to consider what you want. The gas mileage is barely any better, it's a significant drop in power on the heaviest truck LR makes (and considering the LR4 has an upgraded engine from the V8 LR3), and the V8 seems mostly bulletproof. That said, V6's will be cheaper and parts (if needed) will probably be cheaper.
