Default misfiring while cruising on highway @2,000rpm

We recently took my wifes LR3 out of town and noticed on the freeway that when you push the gas to accelerate lightly without having the transmission downshift, I can feel the engine misfiring via a shuddering and loss of power feeling. It doesn't happen when I get above @2,500rpm or when accelerating at speed, but when cruising at 2,000 rpm and I try to give it gas it misfires. I have heard the capacitor or something like that in the wiring harness to the spark plugs could be the culprit. I plan on changing the plugs and inspecting the boots. I only got about 15.6 mpg for the whole trip, which is worse than my Disco II, which normally gets around 17-18 mpg highway. Thanks to all.

When you here electronic "ticking" or "arcing" it is usually spark plug wires or a coil breaking down and allowing an arc to find a way to ground other than inside the combustion chamber. So this leakage hurts performance and mpg. If you were to examine under the hood in complete darkness, may even see some little arcs, sometimes worse with a fine mist of water from a spray bottle. Good wires and plugs is a great start.

Mike can you e-mail me that TSB please, I've got a MSV2 - I want to check versions and see if mine has been updated / is the most current version.

I have the v8. I'm a pretty good mechanic and I was going to check for arcing. I've read about the issue with the capacitor/resistor in the coil pack harness. No check engine light came on. A week earlier a message saying reduced engine power appeared but never came back. My wife just called me earlier and said the check engine light was on so when I get back from working out of town I will scan it with me code reader to see whether it is a random multiple cylinder misfire of a particular cylinder. Also, thanks for the advice on that tech bulletin. I will take that up with my dealer asap. Thanks for all the advice.

Basic tune up stuff is a good place to start. Spark Plugs, Clean the throttle body and Throttle plate.. as well as investigating any stored trouble codes.
