Must Wheel Alignment have to be done on LR3 setting to tight tolerance?
Hi.I need a wheel alignment. on 2006 224k miles LR3 SE V8.
What to do.
I took it to LR dealer and they said will do best they can as adjustment bolts down there too rusty and afraid they may break them if turned and they don't have parts So they semi aligned it the best they could.
I bought all the parts to change the bolts which have to do with alignment from Atlantic British.
I took it in to regular mechanic to change steering column and give him parts to change the alignment bolts etc..(he doesn't do wheel alignments).
When he gives me car back he didn't do alignment bolts because.." you don't need it.They made you buy all these parts for nothing.Nothing is wrong with them...!!
So I call Firestone they don't have llD tool to put suspension into tight tolerance setting.
What am I supposed to do.What would you do ?
Thanks

Originlly you’re supposed to set the vehicle to TTM, yes. But that’s when it’s a brand new vehicle, blah blah. If you can’t do that, just open the upper tailgate. It should prevent most of the EAS movements. Also modern alignment systems are pretty good.
I’ve done the open tailgate thing several times and my alignment has been quite good. Also no excess tire wear or anything.

I would trust the LR dealer over the indy unless that indy mechanic is a Rover specialist. The issue is the bolts fuse into the bushings and if you along and twist the bushings too much you will have issues. So unless the indy went though then all and they slide right out with no issue, then a closer look may be needed.
As for being in tight tolerance, I always set mine and tell the tech to leave the vehicle running when doing the alignment. Usually there is no issue doing it this was. By the way you WANT movements, you want the truck to settle and adjust to be as level as possible when alignment adjustments are made. But really it not the end of the world if you get it "close enough". The biggest and best thing one can really do is a nice proper height calibration to make sure the truck is sitting true to level as possible before doing an alignment. Need a GAP tool or such though for that.

The Indy mechanic we go to really just will not do work we do not need.
So I'll keep looking for a place that does wheel alignments with that tool.If not I'll fill car up with gas and tell em to open upper tailgate.
Thanks
Suspension shouldn’t adjust if a door is open… including tailgate.
As for full tank of fuel thing, the tank is to the right instead of center. On the other hand, if you normally transport humans shouldn’t you have at least the driver present and sitting, etc. I’ve always taken these with a slight grain of salt.
All I can say is that the people adjusting seem relatively happy and the printout showing before/after shows improvements. In my case, the previous time, when replacing pretty much everything on the rear axle with new, the situation before was obviously very out of whack.
