Hi All - new to the forum. Some great info here on tires. I have an 2005 LR3 SE with the "ever-exciting" HPs and like most others here, I am looking to see what tires I should go with when I change and upgrade. The Silent Armours seem to be the way to go for, so far anyway. I do limited off-road, but love to have the capabilities, just in case! I noticed on Tire Rack a couple others didn't know if anyone had any info or comments on these: Bridgestone Dueler A/T D695 or Michelin LTX A/T 2's. Both were at the top of the ratings per Tire Rack for their category at the 265/60/18 size. Any comments are appreciated! Thanks

Well its been some time but have not really seen a ton of good reviews on those Goodyear Silent Armour Tires. Below are just a small sample of the quotes of previous owners.

Put these tire on my F250. Worst handling tires I ever had in winter. There is nothing good about them. The Firestone Transforce LT235/85R16 is an absolute dream.
Started hearing a noise in back, dealer said the tires are cupped and out-of-round in 6000 miles. No defects with the vehicle detected to cause this. He advised these tires are not typical of Goodyear and has seen it before. I'm stuck for the next several years with these and am pissed off."

I'm running Perelli Scorpion Zeros right now. Very nice in the rain, no hydroplaning. And not bad in the snow either. Not been stuck yet and the zeros have a nice highway ride they don't sway much while turning or lane changing.

I have nitto terra grappler stock size. they wear amazing. This is my second set I got 50,000 off my last set and the traction is amazing. It has been snowing here in NC, while everyone is doing 25 I can go 35-45 easy. I know that the traction control is a big help but my footprint shows deep solid traction. I am sold on these tires

Hankooks AT's 265/60/18
I got the hankooks at's and they are amazing. I've had them for about 2000 miles and they ride very smooth on the highway and are great in the snow. I went with a smaller size because they run much better in the snow. I had the nitto grappler's before 285/60/18 but found them to be a bit too wide for my taste on the LR3's stance and loud on the highway compared to the hankooks. Don't get me wrong, they are pretty good tires but I find the hankooks to be slightly better, so far. Also with this smaller tire size you can put snow chains on if you want that extra grip.

I personally have been considering some 255/70-18s which is a 32.1 x 10.04 x 18 in a Toyo Tires Open Country A/T2 orCooper Disco A/T3.
I am thoroughly disgusted with the fact that the major mud tire manufacturers like BFG or Goodyear for example don't make smaller mud tires for 18" wheels like a 265...

I just put on the Toyo Open Country A/T II 255/70 R18
New rims also. I will post some pics. With stock rims there is a little rubbing in the rear, toward the front of the wheel-well when turning in reverse (my co-worker has this setup)
My aftermarket wheels push the tires out about 3/4 so I am getting no rubbing in the rear, but some in the front when going in reverse and wheel turned about 50%. I had to trim away some of the plastic lip that extends past the bumper with a utility knife. This is normal suspension height and off-road. Not much different at access height. More to come.
