Newbie Considering a 2004 LR with Questions
I've been "hung up" meaning I've had to back out of an obstacle and try a new line. ...and I've been unable to proceed or clear an obstacle. Only times I've been stuck were in deep snow (2' or more) or one time when I tried to go through this very deep mud pit just for the hell of it. I knew I wasn't getting through unless at full throttle and I wouldn't commit to that. ...then again that was a long time ago and I didn't think to turn off DSC. Hmmmm....I wonder if that pit is still there? Anyway, Dusty is right, stuck happens. All this means for me is that I need to wheel more!
I would not suggest towing in reverse. The differentials are not designed for that. Think about the design of the gears in them for a moment. Also don't tow with your winch, this is usually where you end up with a hook or a cable through your windshield.
I'm not exactly sure what's going on in that picture though.

I was just joking. I think he is stuck and two people are pulling him out.
BUT, on D2 and older land rover just ran a rear diff in the front, so it runs backwards anyway, so in reverse it should be just as strong as in drive: one diff running right and one diff running wrong.
Now of course that doesn't take into account the other parts of the drive line, just the diffs.
