Default Power cable to rear bumper

I am thinking of running a large cable from the aux battery in front of the brake reservoir to the trailer hitch location for 12 volt power needs such as power to trailer, connection of battery/solar charger if required and even jump starting the LR3 or other cars.

The small hole in the firewall is pretty full already from other things, so running a 2 conductor 2 gauge cable is not going to happen. I have been looking at running it under the car along the left frame rail, but do not see a way to get the cable out of the engine bay and then along the frame without getting real close to the exhaust where it may get too hot.

Any ideas other than running through the firewall?

Run it on the passenger side maybe. There is a large hole with a cover. You will want an edge protector of course, but its substantial. I think its the hole for right hand drive steering column. If you pull the battery, you can not miss it. I mean sure you will have to run the cables to the other side first, but its not that far. And then you can run them along the rear coolant hoses (if you have them). If you have no hoses, you could sleeve the cables and mount then the same way the hoses would be.

Abran: I am sure if an answer gets posted you will know as it sometimes seems like you are here 24/7, always ready to offer advice and give answers. But just in case, I will PM you to make sure you see it.

Dakota Traveler: I wanted to keep it outside of the car if I could. 2 gage jumper cable is big, and I think making it exit around the tail light would be problematic. (unless you know a better place to get it our of the interior and to the trailer hitch.

I took a gamble and ordered an 18 foot pre-made with battery terminals and a Anderson connector on the other end hoping it would be long enough, so the routing would definitely be rear to front, as the connector is rather large.

I am sure together we can figure this out.

Im sorry, I should have clarified. The hole I speak is indeed outside to outside. My though it you can run the cable below the windshield cowl in the engine bay, then drop straight down into the opening I described. From there down and along to the under chassis toward the rear long the coolant lines if installed. I think this route would keep it away from the exhaust as much as possible as you would be on the passenger side.

Thanks, Might need to investigate the hole Dakota speaks of.

OK. Let me add some details. I want to connect the cable to the Aux Battery that is on the left side of the car. It is in the box that holds the brake equipment. I have a rear climate unit and those lines run along the left frame rail. I was hoping to use them as a guide, but getting the cable out of the engine bay and onto the frame without getting close to the exhaust seems to be my problem.

It finally stopped raining (Galveston County got 24 inches of rain the month of Sep alone) and I will try to get a look at it today. I may pull the left front wheel to see if it can be routed around/near the inner fender and try to get it to the outside of the rail at the front inner fender well.

My plan was to go under the fender well liner.
