Default Power loss within past 2 months or so?

Starting this thread as more of a brainstorming area than anything. I have no false hopes about my 06 w/ 105k mi staying "new" forever; BUT I would like to know what's going on..

Slightly perceptible loss of power - more downshifts, especially on inclines - the largest concern is a sort of rolling-knocking noise at idle, sounds like bottom end (seems to be a good amount of mass to whatever is making the noise) could be something in flywheel or whatever also. Vanishes after 900rpm but is concerning at idle.

Clean TB regularly, German Castrol synthetic, Royal purple in TC, f&r diffs.. air filter is about 15k miles old.

How big of a deal are plugs on these? Should I run some good injector cleaner and new plugs? That's about my only option.

Kinda fearing the valve lash is out as I've read that hardly any AJ-V8 is in spec after 60k. That and loose header bolts (exhaust leak - confirmed) are kinda my last ideas. Every little thing counts when diagnosing older engines I guess.

If you haven't changed the plugs I would definitely do that. I changed mine at 105k miles and definitely noticed a difference in performance. I use BG 44k fuel treatment often as well. Also you might want to look into a fuel/injector flush. Good Luck.

Thanks for the reply and that's really interesting about the plugs! Did you just put back OE equivalents? How was the job?

Another note: I chose NOT to do the BG 44k fuel treatment because of what it can do to the spark plugs. My dealership sold the treatment as one package consisting of the BG products that go into your tank, go into the air intake and the fuel rail. I did all but the last. I kept the can though, and when I next change my plugs will administer that treatment (also concurrent with an oil change).

so let's say I'm about to change my plugs out @95k, I should definitely do the BG right before I change them? Is that what you're saying?

the 44k fuel treatment would not affect oil then. I'm assuming you mean add the oil additive before the oil change, yeah?

Thanks for the info. Definitely going in my round of maintenance for plugs.

When I did the other two treatments it was suggested that I change the oil. I am just playing it safe with the suggestion to change the oil after the 44k treatment as well.

It's an easy enough measure to take.
