Really pushing my luck here - Fuel Pump Help
First things first, I am a D3 owner, 209,650 on the clock right now. I did , however, recognize it was getting up there in miles, so i purchased a previously enjoyed full size '12 Range Rover a few months back.
I am having an issue with the RR, and i posted over there, and i waited...
and i waited...
and waited....
and I'm still waiting. You get the point? No response! Crickets.
I miss my LR buds. You guys would have responded within 12 hours. So, the only thing i can think of is; guys who own range rovers don't work on them. So, I humbly come to you, to see if anyone can help, here in the LR3 section, with my RR issue. Yes - I know i'm gonna get assaulted for this, but it's likely an easy question.
I had a no start situation - fuel pump code - changed relay, no dice. CLassic symptions of a fuel pump issue - car cranks no starts - and has stalled out on me twice. A WACK on the fuel pump access area under the real passenger seat has gotten me started TWICE.
I attempted to change fuel pump myself. I removed, what I thought would be the fuel pump under the access cover - but it's NOT the fuel pump...
It's a cover of some sort, that has wires/connectors that extend to the back(or front?) of tank.... where I see the actual fuel pump sitting there. THe pump, however, is a relatively big reach into the tank, and it is NOT just sitting there.. it is mounted in there, somehow...
I am unsure how to remove it...and it is, of course, not like ANY video i found on changing fuel pumps, even on Range Rovers ( Found 2-3 vids of pumps for 2006 RR - not the same).
This is the access hole - and the cover (After a connector and one fuel line was removed)

This is what that cover/ looks like when it's removed....

and finally - there is the pump, sitting at the back of the tank, in some gas, seemingly mounted to/connected in some fashion, that I cannot figure out. i should warn you - although the pic makes it look like the pump is just sitting right there, it's actually quite further away than the picture makes it seem.

Anyone know how I get that bad boy out of there?
My humble apologies for doing such an outrageous thing such as posting a RR question in the LR section, but it's only cause you all are swell....
THANKS.

Can you give more info on the RR model and engine to help with determining which fuel tank and lines should be in your car. There are slightly differing pump and fuel supplies on some models.
On further investigation and viewing the photos you've posted I'm convinced that the part you have in your hand is this; http://www.roverparts.com/product/im...150G_LARGE.jpg which is the pump. The part in the rear of the tank is probably one of the remote pick ups or rollover shut off valves or, more likely, a remote fuel level sensor. The shape of the RR tank means that a single level sensor is not possible so it's not part of the pump assembly. You were likely expecting the pump to come out with a float attached, but with remote sensors there won't be one.

Alphamale - thanks. it's a 2012 Range Rover HSE with the 5.0 Engine. This makes a lot of sense. So what I think you're telling me, is that I ACTUALLY HAD pulled the fuel pump out, and the part at the bottom of the tank isn't the pump, but the float/sending unit (or however you want to call it). That would explain why a wack of the access hole would actually work (Cause why would banging it there, get the pump at the bottom of the tank started?? Am I some sort of super human?)
this is what i bought, marketed as a fuel pump.

Let me know what you think - and i'll see if I can find that part.
so - this looks to be both - the question is - which is the pump! which needs to be replaced..? hmm.

Looking at the parts list for your model it shows the part that you removed from the top of the tank as being the sender unit. So you seem to have purchased the right part. However, as to how to fit ?????? If the MicroCat I'm using is correct there are 2 access plates in the top of the RR tanks, have you looked under the carpet on the other side for the second one? Could the pump be accessed from it? (I'm guessing most of this as I only have the diagrams in MicroCat to go by.

I had to replace the fuel pump on my 2006 RR, but I had the dealership do it as I assumed the tank had to be removed. I had no idea this could be done without removing the tank or I would have done it myself.
In my defense it failed when I was leaving the dentist and was catching a flight, having it towed to the dealership and fixed was my priority before my return.😄
Yes, RR and RRS should not be confused. The RR is completely different to the RRS which has the same platform as the LR3 (many part are common to both and some beefier on the RRS) up to about 2016, when, IIFC they start to differ in some areas.
