Default Removing 2nd Row Interior Light

Hi:

New member here and I hope someone can help me solve the dreaded remote locking issue on a 2005 LR3

Have had an intermittent locking problem with both key fobs that has now become permanent. Dealer solution - new fobs as the batteries are probably at end of life - big bucks!!

Ordered two new batteries and cut one fob apart carefully and installed new battery. No success. Tried the key in ignition, remove, hold button press lock three times and lo and behold it worked. Well for a short time and now I'm back to intermittent operation. I need to check that the RF receiver is getting power and from other threads it appears I can get access by removing the second row overhead light and verifying constant voltage at receiver. I do not want to damage this by just pulling it or levering it off. Can anyone tell me how to remove it?

I've also been looking at the splice connector as this is a common cause of failure. I have pulled the trim to allow access to the plastic cover over the wires running along the side of the front passenger seat. The cover appears to run all the way from front to back of the 2nd row seats and is secured by white clips. Is there a technique to pull the cover off? I understand the splice is about 2" in front of the seat. Is this where I should be looking? Do the three wires wires run forward or back?

Any help would be much appreciated.

Just pull it out(dome light).

i would check/fix the wire connection in the sill first. The runner plate is a little difficult, just use a pry tool and start popping it up.

Default 3 to 5 inches, passenger side

Below is a good link with pictures.

Note it is an Australian RHD D3 and speaks of the passenger side, in this case, the left hand side.

For LHD 3's, I think it is still the passenger side, but for North America, that is the right side.

Default Thanks

I took your advice and checked the passenger side loom for any problems. Took a while as I was looking for a splice like the one in the photos and couldn't find one. I did find a couple of joined wires covered in electrical tape with a corroded crimp underneath. Eventually I found the third wire.

I suspect this was done at the dealer around 2008 as I had the water issue and key problems. Pretty poor splice job.

Anyway, a good splice with adhesive shrink tubing to cover it restored the locking system.

Thanks for the information!!

Default success then

I appreciate the update.

It is nice to hear when one was successful.

What I wonder is if Land Rover is still doing that splice thing? For the early vehicles, it is like they had forgotten about the conductors and hence the crimp fix was something done right on the assembly line.

The other small conductors you found were most likely to provide power for the illuminated power window switches mounted in the doors.

Again thanks.
