Default Shifter issues

Ever since my mini top end rebuild ive had some issues with D being illuminated regardless of the gear its in and sports mode not working. Are these 2 functions controlled by switches under the console or on the shifter itself ?
The correct gear is shown on the dash.

The connector under the switch can give problems but I would check the shifter linkage on the side of the gearbox as it tends to rust up. Remove and clean and see how you go as this is a cheap fix.

Not mechanical so not the shifter linkage, could be switches so i'll need to pull the console and check the connections.
