Default Stuck on axle removal on control arm job

I am replacing my control arms . Have everything broken loose and can't pull the control arm out because I can't get the clearance because the cv axle is in the way. I don't have air or an air hammer. What is the best way to pop the axle out so I can complete this job. At a stand stil til I get the axle out. I tried a brass dowel and hamer but didn't work.

So, I can't give you advice on the LR3 specifically, but I can tell you that with my Audi, I could not remove the axle/halfshaft from the wheel end. I had to remove the inner side (end that goes to the differential) first and then pull the end that goes into the wheel out. Why? Because the axle is much shallower on the differential end, which means you need less clearance to remove it. Once that's out, it's easy to remove from the wheel end.
