I'm trying to hunt down a cyl. 7 misfire without much luck (first 1000 rotations, only when cold..) and doing the usual - rotated coil packs and ended up changing all the plugs except one.
Onto the last plug and of course it would not come out from cyl 4. (rear of engine, passenger side). Cannot get a grip on it - is it stripped or am I missing something obvious here? It just feels like the tool is spinning on it.
Has anyone else has experienced this - any success stories to share? Thanks!
Coleroad, I was going to suggest the same thing. This is what happened to me. The tip of the coil pack came off and stuck to the top of the spark plug. I had to run to Harbor Freight and buy a set of small picks which allowed me to fish it out. Then, I could get the socket fully seated down on the plug. In the future, I'm going to use a little dielectric grease on them.
Edit: I just realized that the cylinder that is misfiring is the very one that this plug is stuck in.. I guess I was looking at the cylinder diagram wrong before. Cylinder 7 = passenger side by firewall from what I can tell.

Thanks so much for the tips. You were right, the very end of the coil pack was stuck around the plug. Took some maneuvering but was able to get it out using a coat hanger and a cheap borescope with a hook I purchased a while back.
New plugs all around, swapped the coil pack, but now it's misfiring even more (not throwing any codes yet though). I'll find out soon enough if it's coil pack or something more. Please let it be just the coil pack!!
Good to hear! When my coil pack boot came off, I had one of those "Oh, sh*t" moments where my heart dropped into my stomach. It was a used car and I thought that maybe the previous owner had messed something up big time. It wasn't until I tried to put the coil back on that I realized what had happened.
Yes, I was afraid previous owner had stripped it somehow! Glad that wasn't the case here either.
Swapped coil to cylinder 3 and the misfire went to cylinder 3 also. That was an easy fix and it's running like a champ again. Thanks again for the help!
