Default Sunroof Rear Drain Tubes

Hi Everyone,

I'm hoping some kind person with an LR3 wouldn't mind doing a simple water test for me.

I would like to know if your rear sunroof drain tubes drain water when the vehicle is on an incline. Using a small watering can, pour water into the sunroof tray (nearest to the sunroof opening sides).

My issue.

Whenever my LR3 is parked on the driveway facing up and I get a heavy down pour, my sunroof tray will be filled with water and will not drain out the rear tubes. When I pull off the driveway, I hear the sloshing of water in the sunroof. Only when I'm on level gound does the water drain out, obviously down the front tubes.

I've taken it to a Land Rover Dealer who have taken down the headliner and replaced both rear tubes (LR3 is still under warranty) and said it should be ok now. Yeah Right!

So, I retested the tubes thinking the water would drain straight out if I poured water into the tray. Nope, fills up as before, no water pooling at the rear tires as I'd expect.

I took it back to the dealer and explained the issue, they said I'm pouring too much water in and it can't handle it. Ok I thought, maybe that's true. So i poured quarter of a cup in and still the same, the water will just sit in the tray.

To test further, I have a very long straw which fits the rear drain hole and enables me to blow air (via my mouth not compressed air) into the rear tubes and it's clear. However, water still won't go through the hole.

It's driving me mad because I can't understand what would cause that. The dealer already thinks I'm crazy and appears reluctant to help.

so hence the test above. I need to know if other people with LR3's get their water to drain via the rear tubes.

Sorry for the long post.

Default I feel your pain

Hey man,

I have had that problem and still having that problem, as the front floors of my LR3 are soaking wet. I have asked about these before, and some of the people on here told me to find the ends of the drain tubes and cut them off so they won't get clogged, also it makes the hose flow a little freer. The problem with them is they are too small to handle a large volume of water, hell even a little. I am about to find the reply I got on here about those annoying little bastards and find out where the ends of the drain tubes are and cut them off. The drains are a pain, don't bother wasting time with your dealer, all they are going to do is waste your time and irritate you. I would encourage you to do the same, I will believe it, the guy that told me to cut them off is an ex-technician and he said that is what he did and he hasn't had a problem since.

I heard that you won't see water drain out the rear tubes because the water gets burned off on the pipes before it hits the ground.
