Swapped in the denso reman unit I bought in the hotel parking lot. Took 35 minutes, luckily I brought all the right tools.

Voltage now shows 13.7 in 100 degree weather while driving. Prior to this it was 13.

I guess it's better. Glad I swapped out in the morning heat with access to a shower instead of afternoon heat roadside with no shower.

That's pretty quick! Did you take the fan and belts off or did you do it all from underneath somehow?

BTW, the first time I replaced an alternator was on my Audi. I was trying to do it quickly and forgot to disconnect the battery. Don't do that. It hurts.

Remove upper fan shroud and intake baffle tube.

Used a 3/8" drive breaker bar to release tension. Snake arm down in front of air box and pull off belt.

The rest is done from underneath in off road height.

It was my 4th time, but definitely went the fastest.

Ah, that's why. Took me 20 mins just to figure out how to put the damn belt back on. Had to go back inside and print out a page from the manual on how to route it.

Also, I bought the proper tools to remove MY radiator fan because I had such difficulty removing my wife's. I did learn, however, than an air hammer, applied at just the right point, works wonders to release those difficult nuts.

The air hammer is a great trick.

I didn't remove the fan when doing the alternator.

Looks like Zelatore was more than right. After driving for 5 hours through the desert, my voltage on the new alt is reading 13.1.

Guess I was just paranoid. As the saying goes, ignorance is bliss.

How are you not in fault mode with the voltage that low, truck requires approx 14.6 volts

Btw I will be in her Don again today picking up the car we looked at last weekend, no rover lol

^great question. What the hell? All these readings are via GAP, I should have brought a multi meter. I got a suspension fault once while off roading and cleared it. Never came back. I do have 7 people in the car, at least 5 charging phones at any given time.

I'm baffled, but happy it's still going strong.

ya FWIW I just had a new alternator put in at a dealer (don knows why...), and the voltage is usually 13.9. Never seen higher than that. It may just be how the GAP tool reads it.

the new unit is still a OEM denso, zero codes so far (2000 miles later)

Abran you should be fine, and you've now got an ok spare.

^ thanks. I was pretty sure it's fine but a second opinion is always nice. I think it's the 100 plus degree weather and 6-8 hour drives that starts to show lower voltage.
