Suspension fault "normal level only"
That's good to know. Do you have to use the new bluetooth version with an ipad to get this functionality? Also, is it automatic or do you have know which software to pick when updating a computer? That is my only complaint with nanocom is that you almost have to guess which software to load in some situations. It's pretty easy on the ride level module, but on the engine and transmission I still have to been too scared to try it.
GAP makes it very simple in the menu, you simply go to their menu selection for reflashing ECUs, select the RLM Suspension ECU, and then it gives you a choice between the Hitachi or AMK compressor. Here's a clip from their user manual...
"V. Vehicle control modules software updates Definitions
Available software updates
For the moment, the IPC Instrument pack, BCM Body Control, Bluetooth, Suspension and Navigation unit softwares can be updated.
RLM Suspension ECU
The RLM Suspension ECU software update contains modifications on the compressor logic and temperature thresholds. User can choose between the Hitachi and AMK (introduced in 2012 as the new replacement part) compressor software. Re-fl ashing the suspension ECU takes around one minute. The RLM Suspension ECU must be updated when the IPC Instrument pack ECU is updated."
The new compressor arrived today and the instructions suggest i do indeed need to update the software as this is a new AMK compressor to which was originally installed.
i have spoken to the only LR garage in Qatar and they said i was not welcome to drop the car in for the software link as i didn't buy the part from them. so i'm a little hamstrung here right now and unsure as to how to proceed.
1 - i can send the compressor part back to LR UK and give an absolute fortune to the Qatari money grabbing b@st@rds or
2 - proceed to install myself and take the chance that a software upgrade to work with the new AMK compressor is not necessary once i've done it.
3 - Buy the IID tool, listen to the advice above, do the work and stop bitching.
I'm worried that if i remove the old one the compressor will not inflate the bags and i'll be stuck with an un-drivable machine.
Do you maintain that if i buy the IID tool it will provide the software update for the AMK Compressor?
Sorry to be a pain
thanks in advance
You can do the update with nanocom too. (and a computer to copy the files you need to the SD card).
You just have to figure out which works out best for you. If it's the same cost to send the part back and pay the crooks as it would be to buy your own iid or nanocom and buy the cheaper part, I'd buy the scanner. That way you have it for future issues.

Go for option 3 and buy an IID tool and do it All yourself. With this tool you will save yourself big money and can say goodbye to the dealer.
I've got a nanocom but find it a bit complex to use considering the simple design of the IID tool. You can't go wrong either way.
i have a 2008 land rover lr3 v8 se 4.4 83,000 miles
having the yellow icon on the dash showing suspension fault . i used a snap on solace to pull codes and the code showed something about air too slow to fill compressor , i checked my battery tested good , brake light switch already replaced with oem land rover , i have drove the car different days and about 60 miles round trip . my issue i am having does not always happen but when it does happen within 5 minutes of the vehicle running the suspension fault light comes on . i have noticed that the data from solace diagnostic machine shows the air compressor is around 13.28 volts , temperature around 245 degrees and it seems that all 4 corners are working properly . i need some other advise on what to check or replace i have heard of all kinds of horror stories about suspension

Update:
The new AMK compressor was swapped in this morning. It took about 2 hours. All comments above were spot on about the only difficult bits being the removal of the bolts due to position. (the new compressor has its bolt positions in a different place so if this one breaks it'll be easier presumably to replace). Once fitted and with engine turned on the warning lights came on so my friend showed me the old 'get round it trick' wherein you, turn the engine off and then on again, turn the steering wheel fully to the left then fully to the right then back to the middle. Turn engine off and on again. Hey presto the warning lights have zipped off, gone! and the functionality of the suspension is back. I will receive the IID tool on tuesday so i can flash the ECU and complete the job.
ps i am not abashed to say that when i say 'i did' i mean 'he did' he being my mechanic minded friend.
cheers all and what a relief!

I have the infamous "Suspension Fault - Normal Height Only" error on my 2007 LR3 @96K miles on the first week of purchase.
My IL Hinsdale Rover dealership is stating this is most likely the air compressor. They will replaced it for $1700 new part and SW reprogramming.
Would you folks recommend this route or should I take it to a mechanic who maybe able to 1/2 this costly repair with non genuine parts?? I just bought it and would like to keep it FOR A LONG TIME
