Default Synthetic Oil Switch? What's Your Opinion...

Many threads on this but I am interested in opinions based on my specific circumstances. Just picked up a nice 06 LR3 SE 4.0L with 34k miles, sold new in Nov 06. Still under warranty. It appears to be dealer serviced with the recommended Castrol 5W30 conventional. I would really like to switch to Castrol Syntec fully synthetic. I've read the issues about leaks with older / higher mileage vehicles but I am interested in thoughts about a 3 year old vehicle with 34k miles? Of course, the Castrol website says "no issues in switching" and I have read other sources that say today's synthetics are formulated accordingly. Any input would be greatly appreciated.

the one the dealer usedes is a semi synthetic. I switched to full synth, picked up so royal purple it was priced right so I am running that but will probably use the castrol syn as well just depends on which is cheaper, I use catrol valvoline and mobile that is it, with the exception of the royal purple that I am trying for giggles.

Go full synthetic. Consider taking advantage of the Mobil 1 sale at Auto Zone, 5 quarts of Mobil 1 and one of their filters for $29.95, good thru this weekend.
I used to use Castrol and up graded to the Mobil 1 EP for a much better oil. Castrol has sense come out with a up-graded synthetic oil, pretty expensive at $10 plus a quart.
Not sure what oil filter is called for on your engine, all the older Rovers were able to up-grade to a Mobil 1-301 for about 40 % more oil filtration for the same price, see if it will work on your truck, if not use either a Mobil 1 or a K&N oil filter for better protection.

Your 4.0 is an Ford Mustang engine.

Go to walmart and buy an 820S motorcraft oil filter and use oil that is good for 7k or more.

actually the engine is pretty bullet proof. Works quite well.

oh and we use Motorcraft oil filters made in Mexico shipped to the UK, put in a LR box and shipped back to us.

Its one hell of a mark up.

Jag will do the same thing with some of their Xtype parts.

Its hilarious but don't blame them. Blame the guy making it and selling it to them at a big markup.

I was going through the exact dilemma when I first bought my truck (also a V6).. and it's even harder not to switch consider I have like 3 boxes of unused Mobil 1 5W-30 sitting in my storage (indoor temps, no contamination issues).. will do it on the next oil change (dealer gave me a fresh oil change before handing over the car)
