Default These cupholder inserts supposed to be removable?

Dumb simple question - are the cupholder insert supposed to come out easily in order to accommodate larger mugs or a coffee cup?

There are metal accent pieces that were added to my car by the previous owner but if the inserts are supposed to pop out, well in my case they are blocked by the accent piece at the moment

So if this is a feature, then I might carefully remove the metal rings because my cups don't always fit.
But if this was not a feature, then I will not risk accidentally messing up the metal rings that I rather quite like.

(please ignore all the dirt and dog hair lol I just took it car camping all weekend)

Yes they should just lift out but like you say looks like the chrome trim has locked them in.

I found an easy way to lift them out for cleaning. When my cup is in the holder I do a gentle twist left or right and the insert will lift up attached to my cup. Otherwise I can’t seem to get those suckers to lift out. If the chrome isn’t hindering removal this would be a great way to find out as you don’t have to pull it up - just twist it.
