Me too.

In the meantime, I have seen the STT PROs in-person and on the trail. I know that that's a solid option. The General just appeals to me because of its simple-yet-effective tread pattern and General's upward trend in the market. I need to see it in-person. Maybe in the next week or two.

I like the look of that tire but the General AT2 have been underwhelming for me on the LR3.

I realize they are to different tires, but General has always been a bit hit or miss to me

I feel like that's true of so many tire brands, though. The Cooper Zeons were sort of, hmmm....popular at first on the LR3 but then people experienced cracking on the inside. The Goodyear Wrangler HP we all hated on the LR3 worked pretty well on other models like the Jeep Liberty. The BFG All-Terrain TA (predecessor to the KO2) was a venerable tire in the industry, worked well on so many models....yet on the LR3 they were hit or miss. I have a buddy who hated his and they wore like crap, other people that would swear by them.

So it's tough. For my use case, it will be all about grip and toughness. I won't care about wear because they will see about 1500 miles per year. That said, I really appreciate your input, ArmyRover. Can you elaborate please? What about the AT2s have disappointed you? Grip? Wear? Handling on road?

Grip and wear predominately.

When off road they are no good in wet conditions. I know AT's are not MT's but the BFG AT's would do decent in mud, these do not. I no longer wonder what ice skating in a LR3 would be like In dry conditions they are fine

When on road I found that they have a much higher tendency to hydroplane than I would have expected.

For the wear side they have worn down quicker than I would have expected but that really is a non-issue as it is a heavy truck and it happens.

The wear concern for me was the tearing of lugs in the tread. There are a lot of tears in the rubber on the tread lugs. I do off road and I know that happens, but compared to abuse I have laid out to other tires including retreads these seem delicate.

Seems so odd that it would skate on ice with lugs soft enough to tear like that. How long ago did you have them?

Still running them. What I meant was they skate like they are on ice when you encounter wet off road conditions.

Been looking at these for the last few days.

...Not sure about that brand; I don't know much about them. The tread pattern is more all-terrain for sure.

I ran the Trail Blade MT on the D2 and was happy with them.

I was thinking, I may break up my set of MT/Rs so I can use one of them as a "get home" spare when I get my new kicks. They'd be "get home" status because they'd be the odd tread pattern, not because of low tread. It's a shame I'm having to move on because they have what must be 90% rubber.

Anyway...that means I'd have 3 other tires from that set that could be used as spares. 275/65R18. If any of you are in Western Washington (or even Western Oregon between Portland and Corvallis) and are interested, please PM me.

I got a chance to check out the Cooper MTPs in person and the General Grabbers. I really liked the MTP that is a good looking tire.
