Trans swap?

Trans swap?
2005 LR3 with 206K miles. Engine purrs but it is slipping in 2nd gear.
I have a low mileage trans from an 05' with no issues. I was told you can't swap trans as they are mated to the VIN of the vehicle. Apparently the answer is to swap in the solenoid pack?
Does this sound right?
Thanks.

The VIN and application specific software is programmed into the Mechatronics.
You "could" swap the Mechatronics from your original if the geartrain/clutches are faulty, but ~80% of 6HP issues are in the Mechatronics. You could end up with the same issue immediately or eventually depending on where the fault is.
You can buy remanufactured Mechatronics directly from ZF that will come pre-programmed by VIN, making it a "direct bolt-in" repair.
I personally haven't seen second gear slip due to an internal fault. Usually its low on fluid or Mechatronics issue. The only clutch I ever see burn up is the "E" clutch which usually effects 4,5 & 6th gear. This is due to the small surface area of the clutch discs (it nests inside of the "B" clutch, it is tiny) and the fact that it relies on a wear prone bushing for apply pressure.
