Did anybody else find this thread confusing? People are getting variable amounts of fluid out and back in with no explanation why. Either some of these people are running their trans low on fluid or they're not getting it all out.

As common as these are to leak from the mechatronics connector, I'd not trust this method. Just do it like the service manual says, watch the temps with a scanner and fill until it comes out of the fill hole.

Extremely - what are the best vids to see the correct way to do the drain and fill and maybe even the pan/filter. I heard the metal pan allows you to cut out teh plastic pan and get it in without dropping exhaust and subframe is that correct? Would be great to have some definitive links.

Seems like the consensus here is to at the very least do the drain and fill on my LR3 with 117k for preventative maintenance.

Didnt mean to confuse, just wanted to provide some extra reading on the procedure on reading temps inside the tranny. When I drained and refilled mine, I know I was not able to get that much in/out and im running smoothly. Same procedure as Jafir posted.

Best of luck!

No worries. Didn't mean to make it an accusation. Was really trying to find out if I'm the only one not quite getting it. Very much appreciate the extra info.

I'm seeing two options for doing this: the first is to drain it from the bottom and fill from from the side of the tranny. This seems to result in getting out 4-4.5 quarts of fluid and will leave dirty fluid in the torque converter. To get it cleaned out I would seemingly have to do this several times.

The other is via hoses at the radiator. This seems to get out most of the fluid and doesn't look too difficult. It would seem prudent to double-check the fluid level at the side of the tranny when it's at temp after doing this procedure.

A few questions:
1. Is there any risk with the radiator procedure since you're running the tranny dry? It may be only for 30-60 seconds, but it will have no fluid in it for some period of time.

2. Maybe stupid q, but once you use a garden sprayer for tranny fluid I assume it's useless to use for anything else after that? Or do you wash it out and reuse it in the yard?

3. Is pressure necessary to get fluid into the tranny via the radiator hose, or does it just make it go faster?
