Transmission rebuild
I can ... but the 2008 unit has nice clean fluid whereas my valve body had a few metal pieces form the drum/steel/frictions grinding. So i figured the 2008 mechtronics is probably in better shape. My unit is probably the safe way to go except if someone can confirm that the 2008 mechtronics can work without programming.
for the fill, in the previous posts in this thread, the transmission was prefilled before putting the pan cover back on. Makes life easier. So i was wondering how much they filled it with assuming they used a metal pan.

I would use your original Mechatronic’s unit. I have been told that a used unit can be programmed, but never tried. Without programming it def won’t work.
For the bench pre fill, I would look up the dry fill capacity and fill to that amount.
start vehicle on level surface, then open fill plug and see how much comes out.
From my experience the metal pan holds approx .3 quart less(an educated guess) so whatever the overfill amount is will spill out. Just like if you were filling in the vehicle running.
good luck
Is this better than what comes in the AB kit? I just did the conversion and have a slow leak coming from the backside. No amount of tightening is helping it out.
Did you torque to spec? Trans gaskets usually fail like oil pan gaskets, over tightening which deforms the metal pan, causes it to bow a little between bolts and leak. That can sometimes mean a new pan is needed.
this one is a metal gasket with rubber over mold. Impossible to over torque and supposedly reusable.
Thank you! I'll definitely replace it with this gasket.
I suppose the shorter bolts that come with the the metal pan blot will suffice when using this gasket? The gasket provided in the kit was like a paper gasket ( much thinner) .. which I will discard and use the Felpro TOS-18753 instead.
Thanks again.
Thanks again.
