I thought I'd make a separate post to avoid muddying the waters from my other one, but I'm looking to do a fuel injection cleaning on the '06 with the V6. Hoping someone here has done it in the past. I've seen the youtube videos for the V8, and it looked pretty easy. I picked up the OTC canister tool (7448) and popped my hood, to find that the fuel jump hose is buried behind the engine, all but inaccessible to disconnect and attach my canister tool to. The question is - do you guys think I can just hook it up to the schrader valve on the end of the driver's side fuel rail (circled below)? I can see how this may cause one bank to get more of the product than the other bank, just curious if anyone thinks this is a viable solution.
That is how I do it. I use BG product that you can run the car on.
Disconnect the fuel pump relay, attach tool to schrader valve, pressurize tool to 60 PSI, and start her up and run until it sputters.
Brilliant, the next and most important thing is - where did you get the adapter for the schrader valve? I'm looking for (I think) a 3/8" quick connect male with a female threaded end to go on the schrader valve. Can you post a picture of yours? Did it come with your OTC tool?
Also - did you clamp off the fuel supply line or leave it open? Even with removing the fuse for the fuel pump, some people apparently clamp the fuel line.
i have the BG tool, connector was included. You can get the harbor freight cheap fuel pressure tester, it has an assortment of fittings that should work.
For future reference, for anyone, the harbor freight kit does have a fitting that works, but it's utter crap. I threaded it on and it broke instantly. Also, the other end of the Harbor Freight fittings don't mate up with OTC's quick-connect fittings, so you have to do a bit of a shuffle to get it to work. OTC's application manual also erroneously lists the fitting you need for the 2006 LR3 4.0L V6 fuel rail as a 7/16"-20 schrader fitting (OTC 549578 - #45 in their book). It is actually 0.305"-32 (OTC 549579 - #46).

When should this service (fuel injector cleaning) happen? I just replaced a dead 2007 LR3 engine with a Ford Ranger V6 and checked the injectors (Ford) but they did not appear to need cleaning, so just put them back in and did not even replace the gaskets (O-rings), they seem to be working fine, the used engine had appx 100K miles on it.

Reason: Added: "O-rings"
