V6 help.
My neighbor did an install of a used motor and it won’t fire. There is no spark. CPS has been changed and Capacitor swapped with a used one.
Assuming CPS and Capacitor are good, any ideas?
thank you in advance.

You are making two assumptions. Never make assumptions when it comes to auto work. I learned this two years ago when I had two of the same make/model vehicles. One was a project and other a daily. The project car has new coil packs and tons of work done, but when I accelerated hard it would drop in power BIG time like I was pulling a 10,000lb trailer. I event went to the dealer and paid a lot for them to figure nothing out. Fast forward to one day me putting these nice new coil packs on the daily, suddenly the daily driver had the same issue! So all this time it was brand new defective OEM coil packs that had some internal issue. I ignored the new parts cause they were new... So never assume, test the CPS and coil or swap with others to be certain.
With all that said, did you verify the integrity of the used engine? Timing is good? When cranking, does it indicate so on the rev counter? Does the V6 have an engine capacitor like the V8 does? Sits on top in the back on mine with the V8.

Thank you for the advice on assumptions. Used motor was not heard running before install.
assumption one- CPS is new, so assuming it’s good is not such a stretch. I’ll swap in another used one to get a second opinion.
assumption two- capacitor from old engine was working so I’m betting on it being good, that’s what’s on there now.
all the coils were from old running engine.
No timing codes, can’t remember about the tach showing values while cranking.
thanks for the ideas, I’ll have him go back again.

I'm assuming it's a Land Rover V6 and not an explorer engine, right?

I asked the same question about the flex plate/ring gear or whatever it’s called. He told me it could only go one way.
do you know if the V6 one can be installed incorrectly?
also I don’t think he had grounds on coils, he had them bolted to the intake.
thank you for the ideas, let me know on the flex plate.
The flex can be installed in any orientation. There's no pin or anything that would prevent you from installing it in the wrong position. Search the forum... I can't remember where it was supposed to be lined up. It was addressed in one of the V6 threads. Maybe the "master rebuild kit for the V6" thread?
If it was a direct swap did he just leave the flex plate on that was attached to the donor engine?
He may be ok on the grounding of the wires... It may bolt directly to the intake via a stud and nut. It's been a while...
