Default V8 timing chain tensioners

Ming chain tensioner noise on my 07, I think. We are getting about a 1 to 2 second noise on start up on the top front driver's side of the engine. On the AJ26, the secondary tensioners were the biggest problem. Anyone ever just done those, or just open it up and look at rails, primaries, the works. It has 176k, but this noise just, and I mean just, started to happen and it really is only there.

There is a more likely chance it is the VVT assembly if you are only getting it at startup. But if it is the timing chain components they are pretty basic in design and straight forward to replace. Further diagnosis may be needed to be certain. If it is VVT related, you can run it for years without issue.

Good thread to look at with a ton of pics....

Dakota, What other diagnosis would you do if you are not getting codes?

So, doing some homework, the vvt solenoid could be leaking after the engine turns off. Doesn't look like an expensive part, unless I'm looking at the wrong part?
