Default Water under the carpet on co-driver side - Disco3 HSE 2005

Colleagues,

I drive a Disco3 HSE 2005.
Its been raining heavily recently. A lot of water has amassed on co-driver side, under the carpet.
I have read several threads on this forum with some not agreeing with each other.
Can anyone assist me with a cheap and precise solution?

Two normal locations for leaks, one is the sun roof drain (gets rotten or blocked) that goes down the side (A pillar) and comes out in the wheel well and the other is from the scuttle where the wipers are. The scuttle is easily checked by looking at the cabin filter, if its wet then that's where its coming from.

If it happens to be the sunroof drain, there are a few good videos on YouTube of how to splice a new nipple onto the old drain tube. I just recently did this, and if you’re handy at all, it is a simple repair. Took maybe 30 minutes in total without removing the glove box.

1. Sunroof drain.
- clean the tube itself by pushing trimmer line through it from the top (front right corner of the sunroof tray)
- snip the nipple off the end of the drain on the outside which is behind the side vent. Just pull off the vent for access
- check the elbow fitting at the side wall inside as well. unfortunately the passenger side sucks as its behind the fuse box

2. A-pillar.
- best bet is to replace the clips anyways. the foam gaskets on them are prone to deteriorating and its a simple $10/5 min fix
- do the TSB fix for the lowest spot. original config is a post going into a hole. fix is to snip off the post and cover the hole (most clip sets above will have a stick on cover for the hole). Something as simple as good waterproof tape will do the job

3. Cowl leak.
- pretty straight forward, the cowl can warp and allow water to get under the lip and inside the cabin. will need a new cowl. easy to replace, just pull off the old and pop on the new

4. A/C drain.
- easiest to check/fix. The drains are on the bottom of the center console under the carpet. they can get clogged (pop off the end and use the trimmer line trick) or the can pop off on their own. Either way it can leak the condensation from the compressor into the cabin

fortunately non of the fixes are expensive or hard to do...its just a matter of trial and error until you find the leak point

A note on 4 - If you use a regular water bottle with a pop-up top, they work great to purge out anything clogging the drain. Just tilt and give a good squeeze, blows em right out.
