I had the same issue with my t-case, rear diff and trans fill plug. I had to get my 24" long 1/2" drive ratchet out to get those plus loose. Seem like a lot of people don't understand that a tapered plug only needs to be snug to seal.

. I had to use an impact wrench for the transfer case plugs. New ones installed, properly torqued. I complained to the owner of our dealership (he is actually a good friend), he is annoyed as I am that a mechanic over tightened them.

I wonder if there is more to it than that. Could they be getting tighter on their own somehow with pressure, hear, vibration, etc?

Only one person works on my LR3...no, not me... but I go to the same tech. He had to use heat plus an easy-out to get the plug out of my rear diff after only 3 years. He is the one who last tightened it!

...and the front and the center. Yet only the rear gave him trouble.

I fixed a thing that annoyed me greatly by adding lug nut covers

Moved the project LR3 over to the shop, so when I find this thing called free time I can get some work done on it.
