Swapped in my original but rebuilt compressor and fitted a compressor guard, slotted the top bolt hole so its easier to do up.

Slotting the top hole, brilliant! Never thought of that. I usually just left it out... lol. But I have snapped those cradles in half so leaving the top out was always a silly thing to do really. Now I have an AMK version from Arnott which comes with that super thick aluminum cradle. What plate did you get? I should get one also. What a stupid location for such a vital piece of kit. It seems like such a last minute location by the design team.

It was made by a company called Green Oval Experience which no longer operate,i bought it from a AULRO forum member who never fitted it for $60 - saved me making one.

I tried to rebuild my Hitachi air compressor with new piston seals, exhaust valve seal, and intake seal but sheared two screws on the exhaust valve cover. Extraction failed, as did drilling and taping for new screws. I considered buying another used unit and refurbishing, but I found Rock Auto selling OEM Hitachi for $430+tax and shipping. Used units are $150 and they would be a crap shoot, and the other European parts suppliers are almost $900 for a new Hitachi, so this seemed like the way to go. Given the importance of the compressor I don’t want it failing on me during another trip, and having an entirely new compressor will be good peace of mind. I’ll save what parts I can off the old unit and recycle it.

The genuine Hitachis are even a little cheaper on Amazon at $393. (sold and shipped by Amazon). Seems they have come down a bit from a few years ago. Nothing beats a new compressor, should last a long time! Longer than the cheap knock-offs!

That’s a great find! Thanks for looking out. I canceled my Rock Auto order and bought the one from Amazon. Saved $30 and it will be here 3 days sooner.

New compressor installed. Swapped over my alloy cap for the air dryer before installing it. The new air compressor is so much quieter than the old one, so there’s another unexpected benefit to going new. The compressor head on the new one is a high density molded plastic of some kind. When I was watching a rebuild video the 4x4 Air Seals guy mentioned this new style exists and the screws aren’t prone to seizing, so this shouldn’t fight me so much next time.

Be careful buying parts from Amazon guys, even when Amazon is the seller. Their inventory can be co-mingled across sellers so you can get counterfeit parts even from legitimate sellers. I've gotten counterfeit Denso spark plugs sold by Amazon itself.

That would be odd. But I suppose it could happen. Amazon keeps the inventory they own separate for that very reason tho.
