Default LR3/4 is equivalent to a 3/4 ton pickup

While our 3's do not look like it, they are weight wise equivalent to a typical American 3/4 ton when it comes to towing. Re torque, maybe, maybe not depending upon the engine in the pickup, but as far as control is concerned, the LR3/4 has all under control.

As long as you are connected thru the LR 7 pin setup and the little trailer symbol on the dash illuminates, the electronics know when a trailer is connected. As such, it reacts a bit differently than when one is not - US pickups only got that a few years back - probably something Ford learned from Land Rover and then GM and Dodge copied.

No trailer connection illuminated which kind of surprised me. Lights and everything powered up perfectly through the 7 pin harness and the brakes worked though the controller set up as well. No tow indicator on the dash though. I was wondering if I needed to enable that with my GAP tool.

Also last night I put the new new wheel bearing knuckle assembly back on the 07 LR3.

Default trailer symbol is all you get

I am pretty certain that little green trailer symbol down in the bottom right is all you get.
It should flash when you put a signal light on and be solid on when going forward pulling a trailer.
If the light does not flash when a signal light is on, that would suggest one of your trailer signal lights is burned out, or that you have LED trailer signal lights.

The system on the LR3 was designed before LED bulbs were common, hence LED bulbs in either the vehicle signal lights or the trailer signal lights cause problems - well at least for the LR3; do not know about the LR4 as I think the LR4 signal lights are already LED. In otherwords, I think your trailer must have incandescent signal light bulbs as if not, then probably the little trailer symbol would not illuminate at all as the system is looking for some amps to be flowing in the signal light circuits; LEDs generally draw too few amps for the Central Junction Box to detect them.

The blink/does not blink monitoring is a European safety requirement brought across the pond.

If the trailer light is illuminated, then in theory, in addition to the trailer signal light bulb monitoring function, the rear bumper backup sensors are disabled and also the braking dynamics changes somewhat as well.

All the lights on the trailer to include brake, running, signal, and 4 way were working. Even the license plate light lol. Nothing on the dash though. Using factory wiring in the back and hitch. Have to double check but they are incandescent I believe

Who knows it’s a Rover. The lights are on and the brakes worked I’m not going to question success lol.

Default slight pulsing of LED trailer signal lights

If your trailer signal lights are LED, if you look closely at them, you will see a slight pulsating glow of the LEDs. If so, that is the Central Junction Box computer sending out a pulse checking to see if the incandescent filaments are still OK.

On my 3, with a LED trailer connected, I do not get the green trailer light illuminated; with a trailer having the incandescent filaments, the green trailer light does its thing.

As I said, I do not think there is any tow indicator, at least not on my 3. I did not do anything re my BlackBox tool to get the indicator to operate, nothing seemed to need enabling.

Well over the past few weeks I’ve slowly been making some changes did the headlight clearing of the Amber lenses it wasn’t too bad it took me about 2 hours and I made the switch to 33x12.50’s with a 18x9 wheel with a 35mm offset. And a 1.25 Bora Spacer in the rear. To go with spacers on the front there will be more cutting as for now I’m digging the stance and will adjust as time continues. There’s been some cutting to the fender trim but it hasn’t been that much work. I did relocate the coolant lines and remove the shark fin protecting the lines. Here’s a few pics

Played around in some very deep snow and went Camping this weekend. The only things I broke were my telescopic camping shovel, and also my driver side blindspot mirror fell off. Lots of shovelling snow and winching took place. Tent became buried halfway due to lots of snow and wind last night. I was about an hour north of Eau Claire, in Wisconsin.

Tossed these on absolutely awesome fit and finish from the guys at Series Defender Outfitters. I think they will greatly improve the occasional car camping experience for me in the LR3

Army I’m contemplating picking up a set of those. How well do they work?

So my initial impressions.

Keep a heavy Georgia rain out, without a problem.

Allows the truck to have air flow. My truck was used for barn duty last week and stank of barn. A couple days with these in the windows overnight and it smelled fine again.

They are noisy if you leave them in while driving, probably a bit louder than the windows being open.

They keep most bugs out but things like ants can still get by.

I think they are worth the price of admission and would buy them again
