Was clearing out my sunroof drains and I'm wondering what this foam rubber thing is in my hand? It was in front of the passenger side sunroof drain in the front fender. I didn't put it back in because it didn't seem to serve a purpose.

 

maybe 3 purposes:
- directs side inlet air more smoothly toward the airbox
- sound deadening
- there is a narrow indent on the back side that lines up to the sunroof drain to direct water down inside the fender away from the intake air

just put it back in - LR probably doesn't spend money to make and install something that does nothing :-)

 

Agreed! An engineer had to fight with a bean counter to get that in there.
