Default Where oh where has my coolant gone....where oh where can it be

Who else wants to take a crack at this game of hide and seek?

The rundown:

- Noticed it was taking longer to warm up, checked the cold level the next morning and it was low. Still had some in the overflow, but low. Topped it off
- Can smell the sweet smell of coolant burning on start up, and noticed a new spot in the driveway.
- Oil is clean
- No visible leaks from the top end of the engine, thermostat housing, overflow bottle or hoses between them all.
- Heat still blows hot, AC still blows cold
- Engine temp holds fine at the normal temp driving around

Now the temps did drop from the 50s to the 30s at the same time, but dont think thats the culprit because of the smell.

I'm thinking radiator...but looking for the opinions of the masses

Have you removed the splash shield underneath and looked? Probably your water pump which is hard to see from top unless you remove the fan and use an inspection mirror.

Another sneaky spot is the plastic junctions at the firewall/heater core entrance.

havent been able to yet, only a couple weeks out from shoulder surgery.

but the driveway mark was definitely up at the nose, so guessing water pump is the culprit

Get a good flash light and look right above the crankshaft pulley, you might see running stains on the front cover. Check right side radiator area where plastic meets aluminum.

Hopefully it's not going into your transmission

Getting ready to do the water pump on the 07 probably a hateful job

for the sake of follow up, it was a shot EGR valve.

replaced the thermostat housing (and thermostat itself) for piece of mind as well since its there anyways

How did the PCV affect your coolant?
