Where is the purge flow valve located? 2006 LR3 V8. I can’t find it. Is it on the back of the engine near the firewall? Like where the heater hoses go into the cabin?

Yup. Kind sitting close to the valve cover but lower. Just follow the vacuum line to it, I think the line comes of the back of the throttle body, goes along the fuel rail area then behind to the other side at the valve.

ok, I know where it is now. So the question is, how do you replace it? It is way back there. Anyone who has done it, please let me know how you were able to get at it. Not sure if you have to take off the windshield cowl maybe of it can be reached from under the engine...or if people just go at it blind.

You have to lay on top over the engine and reach all the way back between the passenger side US (right) and the firewall. There’s a two-pin wiring connector you’ll have to squeeze just right to release. There’s an 8 mm (I think, could be 10 mm) bolt holding the valve assembly onto a bracket. There’s a squeeze-to-release connector down even lower that you’ll need to reach. It’s just like the one on the other side near the throttle body.

The whole assembly comes out. Be gentle when you reinsert your wiring connector. Mine connector housing was broken with a wire was pushing out giving an intermittent “P0441, Incorrect Purge Flow” code.

I could pull a vacuum on mine with a hand pump to confirm it wasn’t leaking. I manually applied voltage to the valve to
cycle it open/close while I sprayed cleaner through it, I think I used MAF cleaner. Ultimately my problem was a loose wire.

It’s an expensive part so verifying the fault is a good idea.

Pro tip: Do not rest your body weight via your hand on the valve covers unless you want to replace those gaskets. Did that and chased lean codes for a long time until I realized it was my fault from the start when I did O2 sensor from above by laying over the engine and pushing on the valve covers from time to time to move around.

A folded up cheap yoga mat makes a pretty good pad when you have to reach deep. Yes, good advice to be smart where you concentrate your body weight!

This job is mostly by feel. I used a mirror and flashlight to get a look at what I was after then felt my way through it.

Thanks All very much for the input. I am going to put the hood in service mode, get a chair and a mat and give it a go!
