Default Wipe on Clear

I’ve got the peeling clear coat on the front of my roof. Was thinking of trying one of the wipe on clear products and wondering if anyone here has tried. Seems a lot easier than trying to rattle can spray a clear.

I recently used a couple of rattle cans for my 06. It’s far from perfect, but it looks ok and should slow it down from getting much worse.

Looks great. Did you have any challenges with orange peel or unevenness? Did you finish with a wet sand?

That looks to be a substantial improvement, might have to try that on my patchy roof.

Edit-I was inspired to investigate this magic spray-impressive stuff! The can comes to you with the activator/catalyst in the can that is released by the user right before spraying, it now is a 2K (2 part) catalyzed hardening clear that is essentially a factory finish that can be buffed and polished as needed. Usually you have to buy a can of clear and activator and unless you use it all the activator goes hard in the can and you have a partial can of clear that's useless without buying more acutvator. On the down side, whatever you don't use is going to catalize in the can, can't save it for later!

I have a motorcycle fender and saddlebags to paint and finding out about this stuff us very timely.

I did not do anything with it after just spraying it on. If you zoom in, you can see some of the imperfections. There’s a spot left of the “L” where I got sloppy and got a slight run. I didn’t bother covering the lettering, I just sprayed right over it.

It would probably be vastly improved by a wet sand, buffing, compounding or other form of finish work.

I bought the materials from my local English Color auto paint supplier. I showed them my problem, and that’s what they recommended along with comments to be careful not to scuff too hard to dig through the paint.

You’re right on about the 2K spray. It’s good stuff, and you’ll want to use the full can once activated. You’ll also want to wear a mask while spraying. It’s fairly potent. A simple N95 face mask was enough for me.

One can is barely enough for a whole hood. When I did my 07, I wished I had a smidge more to finish out the side skirt of the drivers side.

I bought 2 cans for the Blue 06 pictured, and it was plenty for the hood and roof. I did empty both cans.

These are closer up shots of the worst spots trying to accentuate the flaws of my work. It’s far from showroom, but for a few hours and about $80-90 in supplies, I’ll take it.
