Default 2010 - 2013

Are the engines for this model range all basically the same as far as reliability is concerned? I keep reading that the 2010’s are particularly bad for the timing chain tensioner defect but I know the 2011 - 2013 have the same problems without any change in parts.

i have heard that the 2013 tensions were revised. It really amounted to a steel button on the shoe where the tensioner plunger contacts it and wears the aluminum on the 2010-2012 tensioners. Not sure if it "cured" the issue or not
I still believe the biggest issue was the factory long specified oil change interval of like 15k miles. I have changed our oil every 5k with synthetic on the 2011 and at 97k miles so far chains are quiet and tight.

Yes, Land Rover specified 15K miles. I tired it once....oil looked and smelled awful, even using JLR genuine Castrol liquid gold. Always been on 5K mile invervals, DI engine seem to make dirtier oil.

I agree and many others agree about the oil, there's plenty of these older Jag and Rover 5.0 litre engines out there will NO tensioner issues on well maintained vehicles.
