Default 2012 LR4 once in a while gets stuck in park

Hello everyone, I just picked up a nice 2012 LR4 HSE with 160k miles.. the car is in great shape and put about 1,200 miles on it since purchased.

the issue I’m having is every once in a while I put the car in park to go inside the gas station and turn the car off.. when I come back to take off it’s stuck in park and I get a transmission error displayed and the terrain management is turned off..

I have to cycle the car on and off and then it shift into reverse/ drive.

I get a CEL light ( have not had time to run code)

this is the only issue with the car and runs and drives great

Located in Westchester NY area if anyone know a good shop to take it to or if I can DIY this fix

Take a look at your shift link on the side of the transmission. They are a known issue of seizing up due to corrosion. I'm wondering if this isn't freaking your transmission out by not being recognized as fully in park and that's why you are getting error messages and CEL? If it is super rusty, it's a cheap and easy fix to do yourself with lots of videos online on how to do it. You may have a different problem, but it would be good to rule this out first.
