Default Which is the most reliable Discovery model

I am looking to purchase the last of the Discovery models before they turned into a bubble. (2016)
My partner has the last of the old Defender but for me I need an auto in the city.
What is the best out of the engines V6 or V8?
and is there any other things I should know before purchasing. (This is my first car I have ever purchased) but have been driving the defender which is manual and other suvs, which I much prefer to small cars. Hoping someone has some further insights I can take on board before purchasing. Thank you 🙏🏾

Timing chain guides were updated in late 2012, so I'd be wary of 2010-early 2012 unless they've been replaced. This largely reduced the problem, although my mechanic suggests he's seen a handful of problems in later cars.
Going to have to keep an eye on the coolant crossovers regardless of the engine.
V6 is supercharged, which means an additional failure point and maintenance item. In addition, the shifter **** that rises from the dash is also a failure point.
The v6 cars will be newer of course, which generally means fewer problems.

Thats very helpful thank you. So if I were to purchase the last model from 2016 would that be the safest bet in a V6?

I'm waiting on a 2012 to ship with 97k miles. It doesn't have chain slap now and it may never have it, but it may develop. It isn't a problem 100% across every single engine like everyone wants you to believe. I drove a '12 with 137k miles, no chain slap and nobody did the chain work on it. It wasn't very well maintained and had cross-over pipes leaking.

my son is driving a 2011. it has 98k miles currently. purchased it with 84k. timing chain is nice, tight and no noise so far. I really think 5k or less oil changes from new is the real way to avo;id this. unfortunately, LR recommended 15k oil changes; absurd on a DI engine.
The v8 is really a more powerful and better feel than the v6 and only gets about 1mpg worse mileage.
expect EAS issues with any of them
coolant crossover pipes are endimic to all of them [easier to change on the v8 also]

Eaton supercharger a failure point? Perhaps. Extremely rare, but perhaps.
I have had 4 vehicles with them and nary a worry. Even at very high milage and getting on in many years.

Having driven both... and as a a v8 diehard, the v8 is smooth and much low rpm torque. I like that. But they are getting on in age. And with age: MORE maintenance. I did settle on a 2015. Hi-Lo transfer case. All the options for an HSE Luxury.
The v6 is not as smooth. But in the power band, the supercharger helps. I am not against the intelligent stop-start... but there is little difference in fuel economy.

If you want a late model, there is only the V6. The V8 (4.4 on the LR3) was superb. I wish they'd mated that well tried and tested engine with the ZF 8 speed box. The V6 sounds like a bag of dropped spanners all the time, but it's OK. It has to work hard but like the V8 5.0 it's not perfect. Key thing with the 3.0 V6 is to replace the coolant crossover pipes around 50-75k miles. It's a doable DIY but challenging. The benfits of the latest LR4 models is that they emptied the parts bin into the vehicles to the Landmark is the one to buy with all bells and whistles. They're very well spec'd. The gearbox is superb. I'm prepared to be proved wrong, but I've never heard of any group of people (save maybe the odd isolated case that I've also never heard of) having an issue with the shifter **** that's used on sooo many JLR vehicles and BMW etc. I don't think that's a thing at all and it need not concern you.
