Question Brake Replacement

I have a 2010 LR4 that needs the front brakes changed. I am considering not going to the dealer, does anyone have experience or suggestions for me if I decide to go to Midas for example?

It's very straightforward. Nothing special about the LR4 for the front brakes. Rear is a bit harder as you have to have the right tool to wind back the emergency parking brake. But even then they should be able to do it

Dealer typically charges around $1000 for just the front two wheels and insists on changing rotors every time too. In reality rotors should do a couple of sets of pads - at least. As long as they are evenly worn and within the right thickness specs then you can use them again. As far as I remember the new front rotors are 30mm thick and ok to use down to 27mm. A good brake shop will know this and measure. If in doubt ask them the specs as they may try and sell you rotors you don't need

There is a brake pad sensor wire on the front left wheel - it needs replacing if t has triggered as it's a one use item. About $15 on amazon.

The pads (rotors) and sensor are unlikely to be in stock in a general brake place so go see them and they can probably order the parts. OEM parts are easy to come by and not that expensive off eBay etc.

If you are handy and have a jack you can do then yourself in an hour or so

Please DON'T take any car to a Midas, franchise shop, etc for any work. Overpriced cheap-o parts and unqualified techs.
I wouldn't bring a lawnmower to one of those shops!
I'm just not a fan of letting someone work on my cars/trucks who's last job required them to say...
" would you like fries with that? " many times a day.

If you aren't going to do the job yourself (consider it), then find an Indy Land Rover Shop in your area.
If you post your location someone here should also be able to give a recommendation or even offer to help.

not going to spray flame all over the midas chain, but I would not look for a bargin.
There is a ton of space between $1000 dealership and $69 an axle deal. Reminds me of the quickie oil change guys. Found a oil filter half the size and dripping coming out of a 10 min oil change....never again. You don't want to find Miata pads on your rig because they fit (almost)
If you don't have a good indy shop this is a great occasion to find one.

Download Bodsy's Brake Bible from the Disco 3 site (it's free and truly excellent) and do it yourself. It's a step by step walk through. Just buy good discs if you're doing it yourself and grease the caliper pins every time. Very straight forward.
